31 Days Of I Love Myself Enough : Day 29

DAY TWENTY NINE: I LOVE MYSELF ENOUGH TO MAKE MISTAKES WITHOUT MAKING MYSELF WRONG
I used to be my own worst critic.
I was terrified of making a mistake because growing up I had learned to believe that making a mistake meant I wasn’t good enough, clever enough or worthy enough.
If I got something wrong, I didn’t simply acknowledge it and move on. I beat myself up about it. I would replay things over and over in my head, questioning myself and wondering why I couldn’t get things right.
I lived in fear of making mistakes because I believed that getting something wrong meant I WAS wrong.
Louise Hay helped me understand that making mistakes is an essential part of our learning and growth. We are not here to get everything right all the time. We are here to learn, to grow, to experience life and to become the best version of ourselves that we can be.
And sometimes, the only way we learn is by getting things wrong.
What a difference it makes when we can look at a mistake with compassion rather than criticism. When we can say, “I got that wrong, but that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with me.”
I can take responsibility for my mistakes without punishing myself for them.
I can apologise when necessary, put things right where I can, learn the lesson and choose to do things differently next time.
I don’t need to keep punishing myself for something that has already happened.
And neither do you.
Think about how you would treat someone you love if they made a mistake. Would you tell them they weren’t good enough? Would you make them feel worthless? Would you keep reminding them of what they had done wrong?
Or would you offer them understanding, compassion and reassurance?
So why do we find it so difficult to offer ourselves that same kindness?
Making a mistake doesn’t diminish my worth. It doesn’t make me a failure. And it certainly doesn’t make me any less deserving of love.
I am human. I am learning. I am growing. And I am allowed to get things wrong along the way.
Today, I choose to release the need to be perfect. I choose to be kinder to myself. I choose to forgive myself when I make a mistake and to remember that I am always doing the best I can with what I know at the time.
I no longer need to be my own worst critic. I can become my own biggest supporter, offering myself the same love, patience and compassion that I so readily give to others.
Because loving myself enough means understanding that I don’t have to be perfect to be worthy. I just have to be willing to learn.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION:
I love and accept myself, even when I make mistakes. I release the need to be perfect. I forgive myself, I learn, I grow, and I move forward with love. I am always worthy, exactly as I am.
Sending you all so much love from my heart to yours
Lynn
