Special Invitation to ‘Orange The World’ Ending Violence Against Women and Girls

Hi Beautiful People,

We have recently celebrated International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day; and I loved being part of those celebrations.

Today I wanted to bring your attention to all those women who live in fear; fear of their lives; fear of the lives of their children.

The women and girls whose rights are being violated every day.

Now more than ever women need a voice.

We have remained silent for far too long.

What kind of future do we want to create for our daughters and sons?

Are we willing to continue to do nothing; say nothing?

Are we willing to continue to create a world where half of the world’s gender is disempowered and marginalized?

For the sake of my five-year-old granddaughter and seven-year-old grandson, I hope not.

The call to ‘Orange The World’ is a united effort by UN agencies, organizations and individuals all over the world to use the colour orange which symbolizes a brighter future, free of violence, to raise awareness about the plight of women and girls around the world.

One of these organisations is the She Inspires Foundation CIC who have adopted the United Nations ‘Orange The World’ campaign, that heralds 16 days of activism each year to end violence against women and young girls and is running a year long campaign, whereby the 25th of each month will be recognised as ‘Orange Day’ by the ‘Unite by 2030 to End the Violence Against Women Campaign’.

BACKGROUND: The United Nations Secretary General’s Campaign UNiTE to End Violence Against Women has proclaimed the 25th of each month as “Orange Day”, a day to raise awareness and to take action to end violence against women and girls. As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls, for the UNiTE Campaign. Orange Day calls upon activists, governments, and UN partners to mobilize people and highlight issues relevant to preventing and ending violence against women and girls, not only once a year, on 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), but every month. I was given the honour of ‘Orange Champion’ at the She Inspires Awards last November 2022, along with eleven other incredible women.

My role as Orange Champion is to raise awareness. And through the powerful work I do, empowering women to be seen, heard and valued in ALL areas of their life, teaching them to love who they are so they can step into their OWN POWER and STAND UP, STEP UP and SPEAK UP for themselves will make a huge difference to eradicating violence against these women.

But we ALL have a role to play in our communities. We can all make a difference by raising awareness and speaking up.

It’s time now for us ALL to wake up and do something about our fellow sisters.

Women and girls have suffered for centuries.

It’s time to ask yourself, ‘ What can I do?’ ‘ What role can I play?’

It’s time to stop looking the other way.

I ask that you do SOMETHING, no matter how big or small.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

We, collectively, can end this.
