You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup

Hi beautiful people,

Happy New Year or should I say Happy New You?

I wonder how many of you have set goals for 2025 or made new year resolutions or set intentions.

Over the Christmas holidays I had a ‘girlie’ day with my sister and I came across a cup in a well known shop… on the cup it said… You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup …. (I did take photos to show you but the writing goes all the way round the cup and it took me 3 photos to include what it said.)

I took this to be a message for me from the Universe, there was only one left and so I bought it.

I know you will have heard me and many more people tell you that you can’t pour from an empty cup, but do you listen?

Do you do whatever it takes to make sure you are looking after your own needs first?

Do you check on your cup regularly to see how empty it is?

What do you about it?

I often speak about this topic yet leading up to Christmas, probably from October onwards, I could feel myself trying to give from an empty cup and I was exhausted. It probably started when my mum was admitted to hospital and I was visiting every day, having meetings with doctors, updating my family who live all over the world. On top of this I was supporting other members of my family who were going through a very difficult time.

Don’t’ get me wrong, I was doing the best I could to give myself some much needed rest and time doing things I love. I then found myself in a situation that became very stressful and didn’t feel listened to or heard.

So, when I decided to break for Christmas a little earlier than usual, it was me saying a massive YES to myself.

I had consciously stepped back from a lot of work. I have put myself and my mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health first.

I had woken up, gone downstairs and made a brew and gone back to bed to read and I have enjoyed that SO MUCH.

I have gone slowly…

I have taken each day as it comes and slowed right down.

I only returned to work this week and I could feel that I was in a much better place than I was before Christmas.

And I have set an intention to love myself and appreciate myself more this year than ever before.

And that means making sure that I don’t pour from an empty cup.

You’ll be rolling your eyes right now, thinking, not again, change the record.

NO.

I will keep repeating this message as much as I can.

I can only share the message; the rest is up to you.

What one action can you take this year to make sure that you don’t pour from an empty cup?
