Let’s Talk About Resilience

Hi beautiful people,

A couple of weeks ago I cleared my window box out from the summer flowers I had in there; fuchsias and lobelia and replaced them with winter pansies.

The lady in my local garden centre said that they would flower right through until May and would even survive frosts!!

Because we have had such extremes in weather since I bought them, I have noticed that some days, when the weather has been pouring with rain and we’ve had gale force winds, these little flowers have crumpled and sheltered the best they can from the elements.

They have looked as though they’ve perished and it’s game over.

But, as soon as the rain has stopped and the weather has become drier they have bounced right back, showing their pretty little faces to everyone who passes by.

These flowers are completely resilient, just like the lady in the garden centre told me.

Seeing them look so crumpled and looking like they would never stand tall again got me to thinking about how we are like these small winter pansies.

All of us have weathered storms; I know I have.

I have felt small and crumpled and collapsed when the storm has hit me from nowhere!!

I have often felt like giving up.

I have wanted to stay crumpled so nothing else could make me fall to my knees in a heap of crumbling mess.

And yet, I have always got back up. I have always risen from my knees. I have always stood up.

And so have you.

You have crumpled to your knees; you have felt like giving up but you didn’t.

You got back up.

THIS IS RESILIENCE.

You are like my winter pansies.

We may look defeated and that it’s game over, but we have grown our resilience muscle over our lifetime and it’s that resilience muscle that gets us back on our feet.

So, the next time, you get knocked down, think of all those winter pansies in gardens, window boxes and tubs everywhere and allow the storm to do its thing, then when the storm has passed, slowly allow yourself to get back up and strengthen your resilience muscle one more time!!

Sending you so much love from my heart to yours.

Lynn
