What do you deserve?

As a small child I remember being told, ‘ You don’t deserve that’. This was usually said to me if I had done something ‘wrong’ like break something….

Because I was told so many times that I didn’t deserve x, y and z I started to believe it.

So how did this belief show up in my adult life? Well, because I believed I didn’t deserve I played small…..I didn’t dare dream big because I believed I didn’t deserve nice things. I allowed people to treat me badly because I believed I didn’t deserve to be treated nicely.

I always put others before myself because I believed I didn’t deserve anything or to be included.

I was still punishing myself for something that happened many years ago because my belief was I didn’t deserve.

Can you imagine living like this? Well I used to live like this and I know that so many other people live like this.

It is a very common belief to believe you don’t deserve.

Please don’t get me wrong. I am not blaming my parents or anyone else here….they were doing the best they could with the knowledge and understanding they had at the time.

So how did I change this belief?

I used a positive affirmation (every thought you have is an affirmation, and every word you speak is an affirmation). Instead of believing I didn’t deserve I used a positive affirmation ,

‘ I deserve all good.’ I said that affirmation every day numerous times a day until I started to believe it. I felt the words. I began to cry when I realized that actually, I did deserve all good.

A really powerful exercise I would like to share with you is to get a piece of paper and a pen. Draw a line down the centre of the paper. On one side write a heading, ‘ I don’t deserve’ and on the other side write a heading ‘ I do deserve’ and make a list under each heading. Just write whatever pops into your head. Do this for at least a week.

What this exercise does is it helps you to realize what it is you deserve and what it is you don’t deserve; it helps you to see clearly about what is no longer acceptable to you. It makes you feel stronger. It helps you to value yourself.

I invite you to give it a go. What have you got to lose?

Please let me know how you get on. You can email me via this website. Or you can message me on facebook.

You deserve all good. I deserve all good. You deserve to be happy. I deserve to be happy.
