When Are You Going to Learn to Receive as Well as Give?

Hi beautiful people,

How many of you are givers?

Who am I giving my time to?
Who am I giving my attention to?
Who do I always say yes to?
Who do I put at the top of my priority list?
Who do I worry about?
Who do you give emotional support to?
Who are you constantly running around after?

Question: How often to you give to yourself?

This week I was with a coaching client and when she shared her story with me, it was really clear that she was a giver. An over giver. And she wasn’t giving anything to herself.

As a result of her over giving, she is exhausted; mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

The consequences of over giving are:

  • Burnout.
  • Resentment
  • Neglecting your own self-care
  • Boundary issues
  • Enabling behaviour, (if you are always bailing other people out, they become dependent and don’t learn how to take responsibility for their own lives)
  • Financial strain
  • Breakdown in relationships (because you are never there)

If any of these ring true for you, then I invite you to answer the questions above and reflect on where you are giving.

And above all, whilst we enjoy giving to others, I invite you to find the balance between giving to others and your own self-care to avoid the negative consequences of over giving.

You can’t give from an empty cup.

Make sure your own cup is not only full but that it’s overflowing.

Sending you all so much love from my heart to yours.

Lynn
